Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment (NGE), one of the oldest and best-known film production companies in India, has made a bold announcement against so-called “malicious practices” in the industry. NGE has declared war on paid reviews and attempted extortion for positive coverage in the press, leading to discussions across the industry about the ethics of reviewing.
In an official Instagram post, NGE explained that it recently discovered evidence that people were allegedly soliciting money in exchange for favourable coverage. In their statement, it was suggested that some even threatened to ruin the reputation of NGE’s films, directors, and lead actors. “We recently came across evidence, specifically call recordings, that indicate that a few individuals had solicited money and threatened to ruin the reputation of our films, directors, and lead actors if their demands were not met. We believe that this sort of behaviour warrants further investigation by the proper authorities. Before we compel the conversation here, we have already reported this to the respective investigative agencies for legal process,” the note stated.
The note was signed by Adv. Ravi Suryawanshi, Managing Partner, Bar & Brief Attorneys, who serves as the film production company’s legal representative.
While taking a tough stance on corrupt practices, NGE emphasized that its action is not aimed at genuine critics, independent reviewers, or YouTubers. “We value honest work and wholeheartedly welcome their contributions to the healthy progress of the film industry,” the company clarified.
